Kelly Guiterrez

Investigator

Kelly Gutierrez graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a bachelor’s degree in criminology and a minor in psychology. After finishing at John Jay, she moved to Virginia and earned a master’s degree in forensic and legal psychology from Marymount University. During her time at Marymount, she interned with the Fairfax Public Defender’s Office as an assistant criminal investigator.

Alexandra Becnel

Partner

Alexandra is a licensed private investigator in Maryland, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia, a licensed social worker, and a certified forensic social worker. Before joining Dinolt Becnel & Wells Investigative Group in 2020, Alexandra was a mitigation investigator for the Northern Virginia Capital Defender Office. There, she did investigations on behalf of people facing the death penalty in Virginia. She earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Maryland Institute College of Art and her master’s in social work from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

Daniel Lattimore

Investigator

Dan Lattimore has been an investigator since 2014. Before joining Dinolt Becnel & Wells Investigative Group LLC in 2022, he spent approximately four years as a criminal defense investigator for the Fairfax County Public Defenders Office in Fairfax County, Virginia. While there, he specialized in fact investigation on serious felonies, including malicious wounding and homicide cases.

Our Investigator positions require an undergraduate degree, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, a highly ethical character, residence in either the D.C. or Baltimore metropolitan areas, and at least one year of experience conducting investigative or comparable interviews. We work important cases (although we usually stay behind the scenes).

Everything worth investigating is important to the person paying for it, but a lot of our cases make the news. We are rarely mentioned, and we are okay with that. One exception was the case of Christopher “Chris” Johnson, who in 1998 found his fiancée, Andrea “Andi” Cincotta, dead and decades later was charged with her murder. Our investigation and Chris’s outstanding attorneys helped acquit Chris of all charges. See Philip Becnel, our managing partner, talk about this case on ABC 20/20.

Investigators are a critical part of any legal team. They must demonstrate considerable resourcefulness, initiative, creativity, self-motivation, tact, and discretion. The right candidates have excellent interviewing skills; the ability to review and analyze volumes of documents; and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with individuals in an array of contexts. Our Investigators must be able to maintain strong working relationships with the case attorneys and law clerks. Investigators have significant writing responsibilities, including comprehensive reports of client and witness interviews.
